Suainaval is owned by Kirsty and Tony Wade; ably assisted by Rose, the native breed Eriskay pony and Maudie, the mongrel. To be honest they don’t contribute much but they are a lot of fun and lovely to look at. The children were much more useful but they did that growing up and moving away thing, which was quite upsetting at the time actually.
Our background is in health and fitness; Kirsty is a three times Commonwealth Games Gold medallist and represented Great Britain at two Olympic Games. Tony was her coach, training partner, timekeeper, husband etc at this time. It is also fair to say that he was usually (but not always!) several strides behind…but that’s another story !
Kirsty was selected to be a Torchbearer, carrying the Olympic Flame when the Olympic Torch Relay paid a visit to Stornoway on June 11th 2012. She also carried the Commonwealth Games Baton in Stornoway in August 2014. Two baton carrying experiences feels a bit greedy on reflection but they were two really memorable days.
An ancient relic – and Kirsty!
We owned a successful Fitness Centre, near Newcastle Upon Tyne before deciding on a career change in 1998.
The area has so much to offer in terms of wildlife, flowers, walking, archaeology etc, that we think that Uig is one of the least discovered treasures of the Hebrides. More about some of these joys later. We are a no smoking house – but we do have a great patio, which is perfect for having a fag/vape if you feel the need!
Suainaval opened in June 1999, after we fell in love with Uig, it’s people and the amazing combination of sea, sand and hills.
